A few days ago, we talked about Chilean cakes at CiuSantiago and concluded that they generally come with Manjar (Chilean caramel spread) or pastry cream and that they are pretty boring and variety and innovation is missing. This reminded me about one of the best corners of Santiago to buy cakes, though not exactly Chilean ones.

La Signoría is an Italian pasticcería located in the Bellas Artes neighborhood  that not only is elegant and comfy - their owners also being very nice - but also offers food of excellent quality for decent prices.

Cakes are delicious and go from simple ones, like the "Sfoglias" - sweet puff pastry filled with pastry cream or chocolate - to mousse cakes. Not a single one of their cakes has disappointed me, although not being a sweet tooth, I'm actually very demanding. Additionally, they offer salads with salmon and artichokes that are to die for, fresh, tasty, and perfectly sized. Though what I like most at La Signoría are by far their sandwiches. Focaccia bread - flat and similar to pizza dough - with onions or olives filled with tomato, pesto, Parmesan cheese or pepperoni (salami), arugula or salmon. There are many more ingredients, this is just so you get an idea. They also offer natural juices and an incredible ice tea.

It's hard to find the downside of the place, service is good, the place is small, though personal and there's always enough room to sit down. During summer season there are 4 tables on the terrace, which is perfect for afternoons. I might add some music. That would give the place the perfect finishing touch.

On average a breakfast costs you around $3.500 CLP (including a good coffee) and a lunch is around $5.000 CLP. Not bad, huh?
