Being a good foreigner in Chile, I have tried all different types of food provided by the Chilean cuisine. My palate has enjoyed healthy food, homemade, vegetarian and of course junk food.

My former visits to certain sandwich joints and to Pollo Caballo nowadays are sporadic, as I don't eat that much in the street anymore. Nevertheless, sometimes I have had just a few coins left in the pocket and the closest and cheapest place has been (thanks to its geography and the destiny), Doggis.

Some months ago, I went to one of their joints for the second last time and before I had finished eating, I swore to myself that I would not come back ever. My oath had only lasted for two weeks when I found myself with only 10 Lukas (10.000 CLP) in my pocket on the way up San Cristobal Hill (by cable car), and decided to enter the Doggis located on Pio Nono in the Bellavisa neighborhood.

And there I was "again": The service being chaotic, they served me the beverages before the rest of the order which took them more than five minutes, prepared by two young employees who kept happily chatting with each other. I won't get into details about the products' characteristics - it's about simple fast food after all which you all know very well - but let me tell you that I was very hungry and I ended-up eating almost everything. A few hours after this adventure, I suffered of severe diarrhea, which I`m sure was influenced by the lamentations for going back to this place.

It's not my intention to discredit the work of thousands of young employees who serve the public at the many Doggis joints all over Chile, but yes, I would like to call out to those in charge of the food quality. Although it's well known that junk food actually is "junk", there are big companies that work with delicious products, constantly trying to improve their products for their customers.

So, we take a small break from our section Where to Eat to tell you where NOT to eat, and although I don't deserve credibility for repeatedly not living up to my promises, I still would like to remind you that cheap in the ends-up being expensive.
