Lastarria is simply a fantastic neighborhood, with lots of hip places to check out.

Living close by, a friend and I were in the mood for a happy hour recently, so we began to look for the best deal. We chose a place we´d never been to, and were pleasantly surprised.

Urriola is a classy, modern looking place with an industrial feel; the walls are simply cement with very nice track lighting and they have a beautiful, simple bar. Originally in Valparaíso, they moved to there new Lastarria location here in Santiago after the bar collapsed in the 2010 earthquake. They give tribute to their roots with a really neat, giant photo of the beautiful port city at night, nearly stretching across one whole wall, broken into three sections.

And they have good happy hour specials, for example two pisco sours or two Maestra drafts for $3,000 CLP. Liking to try new things, I opted for their house artesian beer, Urriola, an amber ale; yet another pleasant surprise. The bar tender David Ezpenosa loves this place, and puts that love right into his drinks, making one mighty fine pico sour (my friend was so kind as to let me try his).

Though we didn´t eat, the people beside us did, and the food looked amazing. Their menu is inspired from the sea, taken from their original location. Prices seem to be in the middle range, but the portions are quite large. Those beside us confirmed our suspicions, the food was indeed delicious.

With as cool as it is and their lovely patio outside, I would definitely go back again. The staff is extremely friendly and efficient and the ambience was perfect. Yet one more hip place in my favorite Santiago neighborhood.
