The legendary barman pouring pisco sours at Don Rodrigo´s Bar.

The legendary barman pouring pisco sours at Don Rodrigo´s Bar.

Don Rodrigo´s Bar is the one under a pink neon sign and next to the Hotel Foresta, a "classic" according to visitors, residents and regulars.

This bar is not much in terms of food or drink selection, but there´s just something about this place. It´s alway full, and they have been known to have people waiting in line just to get a seat.

Sure, people could just continue to nearby, swanky Lastarria, but no, they wait for a table at this smoky western bar with antique décor. Maybe it's got something to do with how "cool" this place is. A basic description: three rooms and a bar relatively separate from the rest. In the first room at the entrance, there is a piano near the window where an ocasional pianist shows up to play old songs with bossa nova rhythm. The second room is away from the music and is great for a small group of friends; it has a very cozy atmosphere and its own waiter. And finally the third room, a comfortable place for conversation. And of course there is the bar.

They offer the typical Chilean bar selections at great prices: pints of draft beer, micheladas, liquors, French fries and sandwiches. It´s far from gourmet, but ideal for a low-budget night out.

The customers are of all types and ages, and all are welcome. One small warning, if you hate smoke, don´t bother going; this small little bar baths you in smoke.
