There is a great little bar in Lastarria that alleges to be a bazar of dreams, Café Utopía.
Though I´ve never realized or had any dreams while there, I have always had a good time. In fact, it was one of the first bars I ever went to upon arriving in Santiago, and I still head there from time to time.
They generally play great music, which is a huge plus, ranging from the Beatles to Radiohead, and there´s usually a fair crowd. Add that to decent prices—great happy hour options— and good appetizers, and you´ve got yourself the perfect place to go hang out of an evening.
Oriented around art, the ambience is very rustic and natural; and it seems the type of people who come here are very much in that mindset as well. Also, they hold regular book launchings and signings.
As the weather warms, with their tables right on Lastarria´s sidewalk, it becomes a lovely place to sit, talk and people watch. I will say, it seems the service is better when sitting inside, but really, after a few attempts at making eye contact, it´s not that bad outside either. Regardless of their attentiveness, everyone working there is extremely friendly and laid back.
And there you have it, yet one more great place to go in our beloved Lastarria neighborhood.
