Alcohol, music and rock and roll. Bar de Rene.
Just the way there’s is music for all tastes and restaurants for all budgets, there are also bars of all styles and today we would like to tell you about a very atmospheric and legendary rock bar: The Bar de Rene.
When I was a teenager, I already knew that this bar existed and the bigger (I mean adults) and more “rough” ones always went to “Rene” after a concert or leaving another bar or when it was already late and they didn’t want to go home yet. I always wondered what this place was like, what it made so interesting that everybody went there…
Finally, I got to know the bar and its owner (obviously of the same name). “El bar de Rene” esthetically does not have anything interesting, it’s simply a place with a big bar on the left-hand side of the entrance, a couple of TVs and a back side that is – let’s say that having passed through the entire bar it’s a stretched entrance – quite spacious, with tables and another TV. There’s not more decoration than the innumerable beer mugs and bottles on the bar and the music is always Rock, but there must be something more which makes us go there again and again.
It must be the atmosphere and the good taste of music. Beyond this it’s only alcohol, completos (Chilean hot-dogs) and talking, that’s why you would like to go to Rene’s, socializing made more enjoyable by alcohol listening to guitar music.
There’s no mystery, no secret. Attended by the owner himself and getting a free sandwich when they closed – yes, the first time I went to Rene’s I got surprised. When the bar is about to close the guys go from table to table with a bag full of cheese and ham sandwiches, so nobody needs to go home drunk and with an empty stomach. The Bar del Rene is one of my favorites in Santiago!
