Welcome 18, 2011!
We´ve given you all the recommendations, traditions, recipes and lists for celebrating this 18 Chilean style. But as we at Ciu Santiago love you so much, we leave you with a list of the best fondas this weekend, so no one is left out of the celebrations.
Zapateando con el chico
The national group Chico Trujillo´s first fonda, who´ve swept this 2011 with hits like "Loca." Together with their friends, ⎯Banda Conmoción, Inti Illimani Histórico, Chorizo Salvaje and more⎯ making us all dance this 16, 17 and 18 starting at 9 p.m.
Where: Chimwoke, 8787 Av. Grecia, Peñalolén.
How much: $5,000 and $7,000 CLP
Yein Fonda
This has been made an 18 classic, with 16 years of tradition, the fonda created by Álvaro Henriquez ⎯ex vocalist of "Los Tres"⎯ filling the "dieciocho" nights with folklore, as well as rock, one of the reasons why it´s become so popular. This year, there are two locations, one in Ciudad Empresarial and the other in Quinta Normal.
Where: Parque Quinta Normal and Ciudad Empresarial, Huechuraba.
How much: $12,000 and $15,000 CLP
El Santa Lucia en toma, así que toma
Santa Lucia held hostage, so drink. And this is the Bar The Clinic´s fonda, nothing more or nothing less than in the Hidalgo Castle at the Santa Lucía hill. In it´s second year, artists such as Patricio Cobarde, Combo Ginebra and Banda Conmoción will be there, in addition to entertainment by the hilarious comedian and cartoonist Rodrigo Salinas.
Where: Castillo Hidalgo, Cerro Santa Lucía.
How much: $10,000 and $13,000 CLP
Vegetariana
As not everything is meat this 18, there are also alternatives for vegetarians, at the fonda "Vegetariana," happening all of today at Plaza Manual Rodriguez. There will be music, information stands and activities.
Where: Plaza Manuel Rodriguez, Barrio Universitario. From 12 to 9 p.m.
Of course, there will be plenty of other fondas and places to have a good time this 18, such as Parque O´Higgins, which, say what you will—many people think it´s dangerous and low-class—I still consider it a must, at least once.
