San Felipe is a city located in Valparaíso´s Region V, in the Aconcagua Valley. There they cultivate seasonal fruit, as well as vegetables and animal feed among other things. The town has around 71,500 inhabitants and a soccer team: Unión San Felipe.

We can imagine a small city in the country, with a supermarket, plaza and of course only a few bars or nightlife areas here and there. So, what do the youth do for fun? Some grab a guitar, a couple bottles of beer and hang out in a pasture among the goats, talking about life, the desire to do things and play music. At least those are the memories of my youthful summers in the country, where the best scene is enjoying the calm, nature and yearning for a quality of life so different from the city.

Well, all of that in which I told you can be summed up in the name of a musical group circulating throughout our capital: Pasto, a six-member band from San Felipe who since 2005, have been perfecting their rural-rock sound, charging the national scene with new music, reflecting proudly on their provincial background.

Pasto (Grass), is a simple name, yet well represents nature and relaxation; because, where are we going to lay down in the hot summer? The grass. Where do we put our towels when we go to the pool? The grass. Where is the best spot to sit and listen to good music while watching the sky with wander? The grass! There we have fun and relax, just as the band has no more wishes but to simply play and have a good time, improving each time, sharing the quality of life through their lyrics and "rescuing the concept of rural living," said the band´s vocalist, Robinson Campos.

With an EP under their belt titled "Amateur," produced in 2005, they are now releasing their first album, "Almendral," which was recorded and produced by renowned musician Felipe Cadenasso. This could enrich the already diversified scene, enhancing Chilean rock with lyrics that speak to us about landscapes, animals and rural life. Recorded during the summer of 2010 with Cadenasso, who, according to the band, "has been a great contributor to the album," "Alemendral" is launching 3 June, 2011 at San Felipe´s Teatro Municipal. They will also show a video from their single, "El Cuatrero," (The Rustler)  which you can listen to now by directly downloading from SoundCloud.

They´re still not sure if all their material will be shared by free downloads, but while these fervent supporters of Unión San Felipe—they never miss a game—decide, get ready for this release, which will hopefully bring more than one from the capital to jam in Aconcagua Valley.
