Mr. Furan is a solo metal rock artist who started his project in the end of 2009. When I watched the video of his single "Sentinels of Light" I thought that it was a mix between Otaku and metal head, because his music sounds like pure metal while his look has something of a Japanese “zombie” which confused me.
After getting to know him better, I understood that his look is due to some new tendency, wanting to break the image of metal head with wild hair and Iron Maiden t-shirt. And he absolutely achieves that. If I would have heard his CD without watching his video I would have expected the vocalist of Cradle of Filth to do the interview with and not the extremely nice and charming Furan who didn’t have any other intention than presenting his latest work.
Although I cannot call myself a music expert, I have a passion to discover new styles and like to listen to all kinds of music, rock-metal having been my favorite one for a long time what allows me to label Furan as an excellent national exponent of that genre, as he is combining the basic guttural shouts and bloody lyrics (in English) with the power of the guitars and digestible melodies, furthermore some guitar solos (not that endless) with a proposal of hidden messages which need to be listened to more than once in order to be deciphered.
“Sentinels of Light” is a good example, with a quite dark esthetics and sound, the lyrics call out to our teachers of life and in this precise case to Furan’s ones whose – although enjoying the iconographies associated with the genre (such as the skulls and the blood) – clear intention is to help to open the human mind towards new horizons, break the preconceptions. That’s why he is looking for a young and open-minded audience, with fewer prejudices, people who are able to get beyond the filter which imposes his play with messages, music and esthetics.
"Sentinels of Light" was co-directed and edited by Onision, one of the most popular North American comedians on YouTube, and "Grayscale Rainbow" which was realized in collaboration with Jennifer Boldt.
As a solo artist, Furan has composed basically all his songs himself, which have then been interpreted with some arrangements by some of his musical friends. That’s how he recorded his first CD “In order to rot”. Furan will play on Monday, October 31st at La Batuta along with the guys from The Void, at an event called "Fiesta de los Muertos" (“Party of the Death”).
If you would like to know more about Furan, his CD is sold through iTunes and can also be seen as a free streaming in Facebook.
