This year Chile can draw a positive conclusion in musical terms; I perfectly remember the times when Chile was considered "an island" as only very few concerts took place here and almost no "underground" bands made it to the country. This luckily has changed.

This year was a great revelation, various production companies dared to bring considerable performances to Chile. An excellent example was the arrival of the Lollapalooza Festival, Lotus Producciones being in charge of it, organizing the festival for the first time outside the United States, giving us the opportunity to enjoy great bands like Deftones, Cypres Hill, Flaming Lips, Kanye West, and many more. A huge number of people attended and so we will have another edition in 2012.

Transistor is another production company that I would like to highlight, realizing concerts in 2011 of a high level. LCD Soundsystem, Tricky, Slayer, Mike Patton: Mondo Cane, Primal Scream are only a few who played, however, the most applauded was the second edition of the Maquinaria Festival, which came with a fancy line-up: Faith No More, Alice in Chains, Snoop Dogg, Sonic Youth, to mention only a few.

Excellent bands and DJs put also the dance floors of Santiago on fire, Fauna Producciones being in charge of it. Some of the highlights were Metronomy, Punks Jump Up,  Hercules and Love Affair, Ladytron, and above all the Primavera Fauna 2011, which counted with local bands, important international DJs and bands, The Raveonettes y Chk Chk Chk (!!!) being the highlights of the first edition.

DG Medios R is another production company covering Chile and in 2011 it was responsible for the legendary visit of Paul McCartney as well as for the performances of Eric Clapton, Sade, Interpol and the teen idol Justin Bieber. Another company is Fenix Entertainment Group that also brought great performances to our country, the biggest names being Britney Spears and Peter Gabriel.

Although there are still some festivals to come this year, like the Mysterly Land, we can already draw a very positive conclusion. It's not necessary anymore to buy the DVD or search on Youtube to watch our favorite band live in concert. We have turned into a demanding audience, craving for good performances and the production companies are in charge of feeding our appetite for music which we highly appreciate.
