One of Nicanor Parra's

At CiuSantiago we are very happy, because today the Cervantes Prize, awarded annually to honor the lifetime achievement of an outstanding writer in Spanish language, has been awarded to the brilliant Chilean poet Nicanor Parra.

As we have told you in an article published in March of this year Nicanor is one of the greatest Chilean poets. He is 97 years old and has dedicated his entire life to poetry, therefore, we think Nicanor absolutely deserves that prize, established in 1975 and awarded by the Ministry of Culture of Spain, which comes with a monetary award of 125,000 Euros.

Among the prize-winners there are celebrities, such as Mario Vargas Llosa (1994), the Argentinean Ernesto Sábato (1984), the Mexican Octavio Paz (1981), and many more.

We are very happy for Nicanor Parra, let’s celebrate!
