Long hair can be difficult to keep healthy
I'll tell you a personal experience. I have very, very fine hair and not exactly a lot of it. For a long time I had my hair short, because of convenience, style and especially due to its thinness and shortage I felt as I was getting bald.
However, recently I let my hair grow as long as I used to have it when I was a teenager – and I love it, though I’m feeling self-conscious and afraid of getting bald every time I cut it, as without having a lot and thick hair I don’t see the point of letting it grow.
As I’m stubborn – and also because my friends and family love my hair the way it is – I ignored my complexes and kept my hair long using some good products and taking good care of it. In my obsession with long hair I investigated and found advice on how to avoid the premature hair loss as well as related myths about a loss that affects more and more women and men every day.
First, I would like to clarify that baldness or gradual hair loss is a normal process of ageing, though it can also occur early. According to Dr. Cristián Vera, dermatology specialist, I would like to present some myths and truths about premature hair loss:
Myths:
-Washing your hair often favors hair loss
-Long hair is more likely to fall out
-Cutting the hair very short prevents hair loss
-Wearing hats favors hair loss
-Exposing the head directly to the shower provokes hair loss
Truths:
-Every day we loose about 100-200 hairs, however, every day new ones grow to balance out
-Consumption of TOBACCO and ALCOHOL damages your hair
-A healthy diet (fruit and vegetables and 2 liters of water daily) prevent premature hair loss
-Using chemical products and electrical appliances, such as hair dryers can be harmful
Having more information helps you taking the right decisions. So if you (just like me) are thinking about shaving your head, keep the above mentioned myths and truths in mind before cutting that beautiful long hair which is so difficult to keep healthy.
