The theater ensemble La Patogallina has a very unique style which is easily recognized and has become a particularity on national stages and is even considered an important theater reference.
Creative, precise, dynamic, cinematographic and with a great band, these guys have staged plays we all remember with amazement and affection, like in the case of El Húsar de la Muerte, a very cinematographic work that broke the ordinary and marked the style of the group.
Under a concept that unites cinema, TV and theater on stage, thanks to the creative effects and skills of the ensemble, since 22nd October they have performed the play Extranjero, el último Hain, at the Matucana 100, which I went to see yesterday. Touching, full of effects and with an excellent screenplay – especially the story of the young protagonist – this play not only left me amazed, but also made me think.
Lively and violent, just like the hustle-and-bustle of the period that the play represents, Extranjero is a play 80% visual and musical – I would like to underline this for those who don’t hear well in theaters or foreigners that are afraid of not understanding – that shows the cultural conflict between the Selk’nam and Europeans and the way the latter treated and caught the Fuegian people (among them other native people from different parts of the world) to set-up human zoos.
A very modern play, although it’s about an ancient conflict it shows the ignorance and cruelty that nowadays still exists, as if we wouldn’t have learnt our lesson. A play not to miss that lasts only until 27th November and which hopefully will be staged again in another season.
