Electrodomésticos

The Electrodomésticos (Appliances) were a vanguard band in their time, in the eighties. Three young men, Silvio Paredes, Carlos Cabezas and Ernesto Medina, making noise with keyboards, a guitar, a bass and other home appliances, such as a blender for example.

The pop music of that time was taken over by national bands like Los Prisioneros, but the Latin rock that invaded rock stations was far more experimental, with those such as the Electrodomésticos.

Thus, with Cabezas´ unmistakeable voice and programmed keys, they created a sound categorized as "rare" among the mass media. They then began to rise, becoming one of the most influential Chilean rock bands among the military imposition of that time, a vanguard risk.

Surely because the Electrodomésticos were so emblematic, Sergio Castro San Martín, a graduate from the Chile School of Film, was given the task of making the documentary Electrodomésticos: El Frío Misterio (Electrodomésticos: The Cold Mystery), which was successful in the International Festival of Musical Documentaries, IN EDIT NESCAFÉ 2010, and was released last week in some of Santiago´s theaters.

For those who are familiar with The Electrodomésticos, I need not say anything further, but for those who´ve never heard them and are interested in learning Chile´s history via music, this is an opportunity you can´t miss.
