Chilean Yarn
In the winter season, many women of various ages begin to knit. It´s not uncommon to seem them in the Metro, the bus, or while watching television with needles making what could be a hat, a vest or a pair of leggings.
For all those knitting fans, magazines Tejer La Moda (In Style Knitting) and Paula have organized the Expolana, a fair in its second year that brings together the latest knitting trends. This time, the event is focused on social style, therefore it is associated with the Institute of Agriculture Development (Indap) with the idea of benefitting knitters in southern Chile. They also organized a campaign called "A hat for a magazine," which is just that, an exchange of a hat for a copy of Tejer La Moda, who are looking to work with a nursery and day care that houses the Integra Foundation.
Aside from the exhibitions, they will be selling looms, dyes, sewing machines and all other related accessories, as well as offering paid workshops in order to learn diverse techniques; those interested can sign up by sending a mail to revista_paula@paula.cl.
It´s a seemingly perfect climate for going and surrounding yourself with textures, colors and winter ideas, and not just for those who like to knit, but perhaps this could be an excellent opportunity to acquire a good Chilean garment or find the perfect gift.
