Fanshop
With temperatures reaching up into the 90's and very little precipitation, trying to stay cool in Santiago can be a little difficult. So, one good remedy for this predicament: ice-cold, alcoholic beverages. Because there is such a wide variety of tasty drinks and one can become easily overwhelmed with so many choices, let us here at Ciu Santiago give you a few recommendations:
If you are one of those people who enjoy a traditional beer on a hot day, you may want to think of mixing it up a little bit and try a Fanshop.
Simple enough to make, it is a drink which is half beer and half Fanta. Though it might sound a little odd at first, the orange-soda-flavored beer can be quite a refreshing beverage.
Chile is known for its excellent wine. Because it is so widely consumed, many variations of drinks in which wine is used as the main ingredient have evolved. Pipeño, a sort of sweet, white wine, can be had by itself, or with a combination of other ingredients. One of the most popular drinks using this wine is the terremoto, an elixir of wine, pineapple ice-cream, fernet, rum or cognac, and a sweet liquor, which is quite strong. There are also a number of drinks, such as chichón (includes chicha, pipeño, and orange juice), melón con vino, and ponche (white wine with peaches or red wine with strawberries) for the wine-lovers.
I am sure that many of you have heard of another popular liquor, made from distilled grapes, pisco. Made with pisco, lemon juice, sugar and one egg white… shaken, not stirred; a pisco sour could possibly be the best for such weather. I have described it in this way before: it is like drinking popsicles: perfect for a summer's day. Personally, my favorite is the piscola. I am a big fan of whiskey and coke (wiscola), so, with pisco as a substitute for the whiskey, the chilean counterpart is very appealing to me.
Leave a comment and let us know what favorite beverage you have been drinking on these hot summer days!
